Holiday Light Contest Rules
What you need to know to participate.
Quick Rules
This year, the contest is all about exterior decorations only—so let your creativity shine! Remember, judging will be completely online, making it easier to spread holiday cheer from the comfort of home. Be sure to have your lights twinkling and decorations up by December 9th by 8:00 AM to dazzle the voters!
Key Information
Registration Deadline: Monday, December 9th, by 8:00 AM.
Eligibility: Open to all residents within Windsor, CT.
Entry Fee: Free
Participation Limit: Only the first 20 houses to register can participate.
Important Dates to Remember:
Voting Period: December 11th to December 18th at noon
Judging and Voting
Exterior Decorations Only: Indoor decorations are not part of the contest.
Judging Method: All judging will be done online this year via our website.
Announcements: Winners will be announced on Facebook Live on Wednesday December 18th, at 7:30 PM via @townofwindsorct and in-person at the Winter Wonderland event. Winners will also be notified by phone.

Submit your entry through our official Contest Entry Form.
Note: When registering, you may choose to participate in the Deck the House Tour for public viewing. If you do not opt-in, your address will not be included on the tour map.
Award Categories
Best in Show: $100
Dazzle the community with a display that captures the season’s spirit through creativity, elegance, and a perfect balance of lights and decorations. This category honors the most impressive overall display and goes to the entry with the highest community votes!
Traditional Holiday Display: $75
Create a classic holiday scene using timeless elements like wreaths, garlands, and twinkling lights. Whether you choose warm white lights or colorful strands, this category celebrates displays that evoke the nostalgia and magic of the holiday season.
Clark Griswold Award: $75
Inspired by the infamous character, this category celebrates the bold, bright, and larger-than-life displays that light up the entire neighborhood!
Fun with Inflatables & Toys: $75
This playful category features displays filled with cheerful inflatables, animated characters, and toy-themed decor that bring a sense of joy and whimsy to the season.
Additional Details
Yard Signs: Every participant will receive an entry number yard sign, which must remain in place throughout the contest period.
Deck the House Tour: For those who opt-in, homes will be included in the public tour for viewing.
